Disembarking in Barbados & Circle Flip Book

Where in the world am I??

Today we're disembarking in Barbados and plan to enjoy the weekend and get our sea legs steady again while enjoying family and friends on yet another beautiful island.

Our flight home has an overnight connection and I don't expect it to be much fun with the baby BUT I've got your blog candy right here in my luggage. Maybe I'll leave it on the windowsill to collect some more sun before packing it up for the journey home. Dominica & stamp thumping for enhanced colour

Where in the world am I??

Today we're docking in Roseau, Dominica - The Nature Island of the Caribbean and they sure do have some beautiful foilage and flowers - try this technique to make your own flora and fauna ;)

Samana, Dominican Republic & Post-It Note Holder

Where in the world am I??
Today we're docking in Samana, Dominican Republic

TAKE NOTE... my mother's mother was one of the last 100 living Arawak Indians on the island of Jamaica, where the last 4 generations of my family were born. (I also have descendants from France, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Panama, Africa, England and these Native Arawak Indians) so I hope that today I will be taking the Taino Indian Cave Exploration Tour and can't wait to show you pictures ;) It's so weird that Haiti is attached to the Dominican Republic - they're the same island split almost in half. When you see the aerial view, Haiti is about 80% deforested and almost a living hell after the Jen 12th earthquake, whereas the Dominican republic still has traces of rainforest. How far we've come since the days of the Taino, Arawak and Carib Indians... and Christopher Columbus.

On Friday, we'll stop in Dominica (dohm'in'ee'kah) - not to be mistaken with the Dominican Republic which is a completely different island. The Commonwealth of Dominica is celebrating their Carnival Monday today. I can't wait to see pictures of the beautiful costumes when we arrive there on Friday!

So since you've been "taking note" of my ancestral history, and all these cultural tidbits, I thought I'd inpire you with this easy-peasy tutorial ...

Cruising the big blue Caribbean Sea - Flowersoft Tutorial

Today we're cruising the big blue sea;
this has got to be the closest thing to heaven on earth I've ever known!

By now you should have guessed that these vacation posts were done before I left. If I get a chance to go online, I'll add to my prepared posts. So, as a treat, for following my adventures, I wanted to give you a tutorial on creating "flower soft" real cheap ;) Someone on my iloveknk group (I don't remember who, was it you Lynn? Thanks!) led me to this tutorial at hogwildaboutstamping and I never got around to posting it - so here's how YOU can make snow, SAND, grass or gravel using some styrofoam balls, a baggie and copic various inks:

1st stop - Barbados & scanning 12x12 scrapbook pages

Where in the world am I??

We've been in Barbados for just over 24 hours with my sister-in-law, and one of my lovely bridesmaids who live here and we'll be setting sail today for a 14 day Caribbean cruise :)

We'll visit a total of 14 islands including our embarkation point here in Barbados in the next 14 days so stay tuned and see where we'll go .... I sure will have a lot of scrapbooking to do when I return! I may need this 12x12 scanning tutorial when return... but I wouldn't be having this much fun and not remember you sooo....

Colouring Shadows on Faces

Here's a DIY tutorial on shading faces and finding the source of the light when colouring with Copic Markers, take a look at the website and see how simple the shadows of colours are and imagine where the sun must be coming from for her neck to have the shadows it does.  Take a close look and try it, and pop over here for some more tips :)

For our wonderful babysitter

This adorable card and envelope will be dropped off at the florist tomorrow to be delivered on Friday Feb 12th just after school to the babysitters so the other kids will get to see this cute valentine's card and the flowers that will be delivered.  How fun!  We'll be off on our cruise, or rather  - I'll be shopping to YOUR blog candy - LOL :)  So, I've got this all setup in advance.

This evening I found a great tutorial for this cute little meander book and thought it would be a perfect alternate to a Valentines card for my Mother in Law.  Here' the almost final product, I'll put some tags with ribbon pulls in once I write up my little messages.

Gosh I love my Copics

Siiiigh... if I could do my Copic experience all over again, I'd start by buying the Copic Lights set, and build my markers from there. I'd search blogs and see what coloured images I like and what colours I'm attracted to and continue writing down colours. I'd download the Copic Colour chart and plot my wish list.

I personally started with a beautiful exciting brights set of 12, most of which I never use. I use skin tones, hair tones, my faaave denimy colour, lilac, green, blue, cool greys for shading and lots of turquoise - but everyone's style and colour preferences are different.

Once I learned how the light markers "push" the darker inks and blend them, I really really wish I had started with this base kit, some greys, skins and lightish faves. InkyHeart has a hilarious post about her must have suggestions. But one day, you'll look at the Copic Colour Chart and say AHA!!! I get it, and I gotta get thatone.. and that one.. and oooooh, that one too ;)

I'm compiling my newest list of must haves and will report back soon.

Get Well Wiper Card

A dear friend is having surgery tomorrow, and she's very appreciative of anything hand made so I whipped this one up tonight especially for her. You know, it had to be "different so I went over to SplitCoastStampers and found this neat little wiper card with a "Get well soon" pop up message. I am pretty tired, so unfortunately won't be adding any more doo dahs but I am happy with how pretty she is and how unique the card is so taaa daaa !!!

I really waned to show how important using three tones is... here's her "roots" to give definition to the right but not on the left, pretty neat, huh ;) Then After I was happy with the "fullness" of her hair, or volume of bigness LOL, I went in and added highlights where the light would hit.

I love it :) I know she will too...

Pretty neat, huh!
