Diva's heart-cookie treat purses ...and Moving, Celebrating, Career-changing and Reuniting with old friends!

So much going on! My subject line says it all!! I'll be delinquent a little longer until that for sale sign goes up!! Half my house is moving into storage on Monday, my bedroom is being painted on Tuesday and I have a crazy-life-alteringly important interview on Wednesday!!  Plus Valentines Day with a two year old, Hubby's bday next week, Mom's bday last week and ... well, I'm tired and my craft-cockpit is now surrounded by construction - arrrgh!!!!

In the meantime, my two bestest friends in the world (since grade 2) are both having huge celebrations today - one beating disease and the other re-patriating to Canada after almost 15 years, getting married in August and today is her birthday!!!!  Both such fantastic celebration!  I cannot wait to have all those heart to hearts and wedding planning conversations with her and catching up after all these years without long distance charges or the confines of email!  And I am so thrilled to have my other bestest buddy healthier than she has been in the last three years!!

Here are some heart-cookie treat boxes
I made up for our Diva Brunch - celebrating her healthfulness and LOVE!

I basically got these delectable cookies for $4.99 a box. I then put two cookies in a zip lock baggie and kept cutting down my template until it could fold up as a box, snugly against the cookies but not too tight. Then I evened out the measurements for cutting and scoring.  Once complete, I added ribbon handles, paper accents, used my ATG gun for strong adhesion and added my little pretty things and ta daa... aren't these little boxes/purses cute - all made from scrap paper, ribbon and embellies - priceless!!!

I made about 20 of then in about 3 hours.

Have an awesome, love-filled, friendship-embraced, blissful day!

Happy 1/1/11 !!! ... and I'm selling my beloved QK Revolution & dies!!

Oooh I sure hope this year keeps each and every one of you happy, healthy and inspired to create pretty little paper things!!

To start the new year, with the help of my brand spankin' new iPhone4 (insert wild cheering here) I will have no excuse for not having a camera nearby lol. So without haste, here's my evolved and messy craft area, I call it "Grand Central Station" because everything is within an arm's reach, including my laptop under the table to the left running my Silhouette digital craft cutting machine!!  Notice to the left, up past the ribbon, and the Silhouette cutter is my brand spankin new Big Shot express *insert even wilder cheering here* that I have been waiting four months for since I got it at 60% off with free shipping (to the US) so I had to wait for Hubbyto go get the darned thing from Florida, but it was well worth the wait!!

...look to the left...

... my cockpit, everything within arms reach ...
... and look to the right...

So, since I have this new Big Shot, I am selling my QK Revolution... and quite a few 2X2 and alphabet dies that I have lovingly used so much that my Hubby even recognizes them in my scrapbook - eek!!

If you are interested, drop me a line before I put it up on Kijiji and eBay because I still have the original 4X4 platform, and am selling it with the 12X4 long platform and the original case.  Because I am in the Toronto area, it will be quite a hefty shipping price I'd imagine to the US or oveseas, so if you are a local gal... happy new year!!!  It'll be yours for a little more than a penny in the pan!!  And if you are interested in some well loved, gently used dies - let me know!!

I'll also add a video of my book of dies as well :)
Please email me if you are interested.

Have a haapppppy new year!!

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 3.2

So in this post you are going to see sneak peaks of my Fresh new crafting area LOL, it's not quite ready for reveal but it's getting close!!  The peg board is up, the ribbon is up, all of my crafting supplies are in the area, accessible and sorted and now... the clock is up too :)  I need a few more shelves, and a bit more organizing to make it all "work" at a hand's reach and ta daa!!!  Soon.. I promise ;)

Today was my last trip to Ikea to get some more of these absolutely wonderful glass jars for all my embellies.  It'll be like an apothcary/candy store :)  Siiigh... being able to see what I got is so so soooo fun!  I also grabbed this jar for tidbits of ribbon so they can be handy, visible and cute.

So today, I've altered the Rusch clock from Ikea - at $2.99 + a $0.33 sheet of patterened paper, some scrap white that I rolled through my QK Revolution using my Finale alphabet and it's the cutest clock a girl ever had!!

Here's what I did:

Took it all apart - it easy pretty easy, paying attention tot he way the minute/second hand attached for reassembly later.

Used the clock face paper template to cut out my water paper background.  Have I mentioned recently how much I looove these scissors?! I touched up some bad cutting with Copic markers to hide the white, and used my finger knife to cut out the center circle.

Then I airbrushed the plastic clock frame.

And stamped a totally unknown stamp randomly using stazon ink straight on with my hand as the base so I could curve it.

Then I cut out my numbers using my QK Revolution and the Finale alphabet
*SPOILER* you can see my peg board in the background ;)

Stuck on the numbers using reposition able tape and my zig pen glue

And there we have it, all the tools used
(+QK Revolutionand alpha)

I've submitted this for the Copic Challenge#27 - using Copics on other surfaces too - yay, don't I looove me a challenge!!

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 2.3

This Magic Box is pretty awesome, I hate to say it, but
a handy hubby could probably use this idea and make something very useable :)

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 2.2

Well... I was up until almost midnight last night rearranging (and purging a little)
to make way for my new scrappin' home!  Yippieee!!!

Here's the view walking down the stairs

Here's the view looking in from the hall.

And then I was off to the store today to buy paint, and was looking for something fresh, yet calming... and was amusingly inspired by Pooh's Favourite Things... that's the name of the colour in one of the Disney paint  idea books I had been using to entertain my little one - she pointed and said "pih'tee Mummy" and I agreed wholeheartedly!

So it was mixed!!

Bet'cha' can't guess which colour it was, not fair I know, LOL ;)

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 2.1

So to continue where I left off, I realized that the first place that I saw the IKEA Expedit shelves (that I got on a 40% off sale) was on Donna Downey's blog post when she was redoing her old studio.

and.... Ta daaa! This is my first ever video created with my digital camera and my iMac.  It was fun :)  And I certainly realize how cramped I've been when I look at this from this perspective - it's a wonder I get anything done at all!!!

And I had to leave you with another idea that I intend to incorporate, as soon as I can find a set of drawers the right size for my new shelves  - it's a scrap paper holder idea from SJh2oski taken off of YouTube.

And a bit of wisdom...

With time, women gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, Good grief, look how smart I am!
Must be where the phrase 'Smart A**' came from!

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 2

FRESH AND NEW!

Thanks Wendy my fellow Canuck for introducing my to Nancy and some of her studio ideas, awesome stuff!  I must say though that by far, Dayami who I accidentally discovered on YouTube was the sweetest person to chat and exchange ideas with and has become my greatest inspiration with her scraproom - but please note, I bought the Expedit bookshelves before I found her .. but she did inspire me to exchange my shelving unit to the white after seeing her room though ;)

I also found this to be very tempting...

There are so many Martha-haters out there,  but you
gotta give it to the woman, she can be seriously ingenious!

Today my Dad came to visit, and boy is he awesome!  He brought his drill and muscle today and we took care of some things standing in my way and now I have everything I need to create my very own "for the first time ever" permanent crafting space - woot woot!

So, in celebration of spring cleaning and recreating my new space, I gave my blog a blog lift with a new background that reflects how clean and fresh having my own space will feel... I'm so excited, can you tell? My shelves are white, and my desk top is also white and I chcukle when I think of some stray airbrishing getting on my beloved WHITE desk and I say "WHO CARES" it'll add to the charm because this desk is mine mine mineeeee... yippieee!!!
No more sharing a table, no more being a gypsy scrapper in my own house, YAYYY!!!!

Any suggestions on what shade of blue I should paint the one accent wall?

Stay tuned... for more... probably in a week :)

My Creating Space / Scrap Room - Part 1

I've been looking at moving my Creating Space to another part of the house, away from tempting my adorable little two year old who exasperatingly allllways wants to help Mummy... to somewhere that I can leave what I am working on until I can complete it and most importantly somewhere that I can SEE everything!!!

Since November, I've been secretly lurking on youtube looking at people's scraproom tours for ideas, an then I got an iMac for Christmas, which ended up on my scrappy desk and everything lost perspective, yet again. I needed a change and I needed to *see* my stuff, and packing it all away isn't helping my creative mojo! I hope I can incorporate the computer in my new scrappy space, but I don't mind printing and blogging elsewhere... my creating space loses it's magic when there is a computer, or even a TV to distract me.  I love playing music to suit my mood, with a general goal in mind (or challenge) and then I just see what happens after that ;)

Anywhoo... during our march break I stumbled across a fantastic 40% off deal at IKEA! So, I bought 2 bookcases and some other cool wall-space organizers to hold my Copic markers in easy reach, etc.. I also made a second trip back last night for a wall-mounted CD holder because I keep all my stamps in CD cases and also got a shelf at 60% off from the sold as-is area in the same exact colour as the bookcases I just got.

I wish I'd given you a tour of my scrap space before I cleared it out for our house guests, but I'll have to give you a tour of my bedroom's tucked away storage instead, which in all honesty isn't that far off from how it was in the guest room before the guests arrived, it was more loosely packed, but just as cramped!

Before I captured a corner in our guest room/computer room for scrapping, just had my rolling drawers that I swear I'd always bring to all-night crops and park it at the end of the table next to me on my right - LOL, they thought I was nutz but I had everything I needed and always got *a lot* accomplished, and I could lift it up and down stairs on my own (afterall that is what I was doing at home).

Back 10 + years ago, I had boxes, then rubber maid boxes and then I found plastic drawer storage towers that are 12X15 so hold 12X12 papers nicely with finger room, which soon became TWO and I also got these great 12X12 paper stackers from a scrap store that was going out of business - they were a steal, and they're awesome! And soon I started using an armoire I had to tuck away my QK Revolution and my Silhouette, my mini sewing machine, my box of scraps and all my books, printouts, paper and reference materials. And... then came the scrappin' table... so I could scrap with a buddy. My table is a fold-away table which I also got at 70% off once upon a time ;) Siiigh... that's about 10 years of scrappin in a nutshell, and there is too much inspiration out there for me not to "work it" in a way that inspires me and enables me to create quickly with everything close at hand ;)

... below in the armoire... yeah, more wedding crystal
that needs to be packed away and printer ink, etc etc

... and my latest addition, my Baby Blue...
how sad he is not being used (boo hoo)
 - I think I want to add some ears on him,
he reminds me of an obedient little blue puppy
sitting there quietly in anticipation.

Anyway, I have some semi-permanent packing up of never used or opened wedding presents to do before I can capture the lost basement space I plan to call my own Creating Space, and one day when my house grows up (soon I hope), I will take what I have started and expand it.. and unpack the wedding presents LOL.

I got the majority of my Scrap Room inspirations from: Betsy Veldman, Dawn McVey and Mary Fish.

Stay tuned for more... coming slowly but surely :)

Get Organized! Storage ideas for your craft space

Get Organized!
In honor of January being National Get Organized Month, this post is the first in a five part series inspired by a Chrsitmas gift i recevied and VanillaJoy about getting organized!

I got a gift once of a professional organizer and was astounded at how much I knew about getting and being organized, but never ever used.. all in the head, no action! Someone had to pay money as a gift to me and hubby when we were expecting our litle one to have thsi P.O. give me tips, and in turn I gave her some of my own tips which she still uses today - and people PAYY her - why didn't I think of that as a career choice??? I decided to revisit some of the highlights on how to simplify your life by decluttering your craft space, or room or house.
Here are some pics I've collected of some cool storage ideas. I'd love if you'd leave a comment of what you use and on your ideas. I'd also love if you take up my CHALLENGE and post before and after pics on your blog and comment back so we can cheer you on!! Remember the extra incentive - you'll get an extra entry into my Pretty Little Tropical Thing BLOG CANDY - click here for the details just for commenting on any of my blog posts until the deadline - woot! woot!
Please share your links and ideas in the comments ..... :)
