Tips & Tricks: Creating a denim look - PART II

Remember that denim card I posted about from this tutorial? Well I love the technique and STILL can't figure out where to get that denim background stamp so my mojo has been squashed for awhile, untill... Dr.Google helped me find Sue who was looking for the same thing, inspired by the same post and she figured out a great way to make a very realistic denim background!!
Check out her tutorial... and check out this cute pocket she made with the Stampin up "Pocket Fun" stamp set!

Sympathy Card

365 cards Day 143: Keep it to yourself Sympathy: The challenge is to convey the message without putting the sentiment on the front, HOWEVER, the message CAN be on the inside.

Whew! No message... jeez... I was so tempted to use some of my beautiful papers and put words like peace and mother on the front but before I sat down to actually make this card, my dear Grand Aunt Verna passed away this morning at 11:10AM ~God bless her soul ~ despite all the pretty things going on in my creative mind... for her, this is the perfect paper and card. She was a sweeeet, simple soul who loved nothing more than her children and who needed nothing more than her family nearby, something pretty to look at, her bible and a song in her heart to make her most happy. For her daughters, my Aunties, I followed true to the challenge and made something pretty and peaceful.

May nature touch you
with compassion, bless
you with sunlight and
send gentle rain to quietly
weep with you. May the
breeze whisper life that
never ends, only that
it is changed - that it
continues forever in a
world more beautiful
than our words can describe.

Kidisms

"Mommy, you're not listening, do you need a time out - ahhhh ahhahahahaha!!"
These are adorable!!

I don't doooo red :(

Monday's 356 cards Day 142 challenge: Let the Twilight movie inspire your card. Use a black card base or black background, patterned paper where the dominant color is red, and embellish with either glitter or rhinestones. Anything else goes.

Welll... I am nooot a red person, at all! So this was quite a challenge for me. I have to admit the rhinestones made me think of feathers and bling but that's nooot the feel I get from the movie so althogh fun, I went off on a creative tangent not appropriate for RED! So, I'll save those ideas for another more appropriate time/challenge. In the meantime, I got out my digi-cutter (still having house guests soon again, so my setup sucks) to cut out numbers in the "special" font the Bride wants for table numbers for the wedding this weekend so I figured, while I am waiting for it to cut.. let's see what we have that could make my plain red paper 'pass' for this challenge. Well, I found this template from the Craft Robo Mega Store and made it square instead and I love it and I don't want to add anything... if I knew how to emboss, I'd add some black on black embossing to give a little sheen, otherwise 0 it rocks!!

The inside is black with 2 red squares centered, with a poem printed on one. The poem came from my original blingy idea which WILL resurface again.. just wait! I printed this from my computer, and used some fancy fonts to make it elegant but the camera is crapping out on me right now :(
Time is too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love,
time is eternity.

Tiffany's Box Inspired Wedding Card Holder

My lovely friend, the bride to be has a Tiffany blue and chocolate brown themed wedding and wanted this style card-holder to mimic her cake (squared, tiered) and to give the visual connection of her inspiration, a Tiffany's jewelery box.

Here's my creation and her beautiful idea - way to go Bride-ee!!

And earlier this year I cut out the monograms on my Silhouette using Pointed Brush font and helped her design and cut and assemble her invitations. Gotta give the girl credit, she really did go from being not-so-crafty to a super invitation maker extraordinaire!! She's even cutting straight lines now and eyeballing it with her scissors!! WOOT WOOT!

Thinking of you - cards using regular letter envelopes

One of my greatest pet peeves is not having an envelope for a card, and now that I have started making cards, I find myself finding the envelope before I start the card - LOL! I always thought if only I could come up with card patterns for regular letter envelopes I'd be set, so here's my 365 Cards Day 141 take on the sketch and my idea... I used abit of creative licence and turned the template to make it work with my idea :)

More Christmas in July!!

OOps! One more day to have made the week at 365 cards and I just don't have the time tonight so for old times sake... here's a scrapbook page I did recently - I actually FORGOT it shoudl have been a card oops :(

For my Day 140: Paint it submission, I wish this could be used since white paint was used behind text on this pre-printed transparency, and I think it's an awesome addition to this page :)

Christmas in July - how fun!!

WOOT WOOT! I did every single challenge on the 365 Cards blog for this week!!
After sacrificing much needed sleep it feels good to have been creative this week. Here's the 365 Card Day 135: On the outside looking in challenge.
I have always wanted to make a snow window so thanks to some pertty thick double sided cardstock here's my cute snowy window. My enclosed window is not secure enough though, I need some double sided tape to get my fairy dust and clear beads with silver lining better secured.
I think seeing the "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Clause" through the snow is my fave part!
Happy holidays and a half (since there's less than 6 months to go!!)

Paper piercing for a design effect

Here's my 365 Cards Day 139: Try a technique entry. It's pretty cool but I still prefer the elegance of embossing. I think I'd use this to show movement perhaps of a bird or bumble bee but here's my go at it :)

Apache wedding blessings

A dear friend of ours is getting married next weekend and her colours are tiffany blue and chocolate brown and she's a girl who likes things real clean and classic. I found this poem and it immediately made me think of her so this is handmade with love for her:

I used some foam squares to give the card depth, some diamond stickles for a little shimmer and my grey copics to give the accent flower some depth and also took some inspiration from these challenges: Rosie D's challenge Week 42 - Weddings, 365 cards Day 138: She said and I quote and CPS 124's sketch :

May the sun bring you new energy by day,

May the moon softly restore you by night.

May the rain wash away your worries,

And the breeze blow new strength into your being.

And all the days of your life may you walk

Gently through the world and know its beauty.

365 cards Day 134 *and* 136 - What is Black, White, and Red all Over?

So, I am going with the flow - like the Nike ad, Just do it!! It doesn't have to be super wonderful, or ground-shakingly-drop-dead-gorjuss and I don't have to wait until all my house guests come and go out my guest bedroom/craft/computer room this summer so I can set up my digi-cutter again, I am just going to make some pretty little things with what I can get my hands on! So here goes - today on 365 cards - Day 136 the challenge was: "What is Black, White, and Red all Over?" so here's my simple sweet take on it.

I wish I had a red stamp pad, but my copics did okay...

I love the extra touch on the inside.

Then I did this one too using a red base card, b&w paper and my red copic marker to colour in the flower - cute, and versatile :)

and I also did a 365 Day 134 as well and it too is pretty versatile.

And here's a card I made for a new baby in the family a few weeks back that I forgot to post - how fun! I actually used my copic markers to colour the ribbon to make it an exact match! A few foam squares to give those flowers som pop and ta daa!

Tips & Tricks: Making clouds

How cool an idea is this? Masking to make clouds !
