Happy Father's Day!

This card for my Daddy was a combination of a lot of trial-an-error.  One day I'll replicate it and do a video tutorial but in meantime, here's what I did: I got this great wood stamp which I've been wanting since I saw the PTI wood grain released, and I stamped it up in SU chocolate chip, then clear embossed the actual stamp, then I used a bunch of inks I had at the time and distressed it a bit and blended on top over and over until I liked the outcome.

Then I used Mo's Big Boots to Fill AfAm image (can't seem to find that link), coloured it with copics, cut it out and clear embossed the entire thing so it would look right next to the embossed wood grain.  The paper is from the boy paper pack I mentioned in a very recent post and  of course, my distrezz it all, which I love!!

I made some notes about which inks I used n my wood grain but really, I think I'll start from scratch the next time.  I also want to try this hardwood flooring wood-technique I found as well :)

Please excuse my poor quality pics and mirrored images, when I use my web cam, that's what I get :(

Have a wonnnnderful day!

Butterfly card/album

I found this fffaaaannntastic tutorial today, here's the butterfly album, and here's the tutorial.  I sincerely believe if you have a die cutting machine, like the Silhouette or the KNK, this would be an awesome, and easy project!!  I have all intentions of making one, but not for a few months so I was inspired to play with the shape and make my own template inspired slightly by my Martha Stewart butterfly punch shape.

Here's my template making escapades

...and then I made a cute birthday card in the meantime, waiting for the munchkin to finally fall asleep - all experimenting with my butterfly shape.  I like it!

Have a wonnnnderful day!

Daddy's are a little girl's best friend!

Here's a book I made out of scrap, duplicate pictures I had of my daughter and her Daddy.  I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out.   I used my Zutter bind-it-all and Distrezz it tool and some really great boy paper and metal embellies I recently picked up.  Her Daddy will love this keepsake ;)

I must say that I am trying so so soooo hard to create "boy" stuff for this time of year with my anniversary and Father's Day so it's  stretch for me, but I am liking th rustic twist and distressing wasn't so bad ;)  I even distressed the pictures!!  This boyish paper stack was really helpful - there's a pic below.

Sorry these posts are so brief, I am trying to catch you all up :)

That last page has a pic of her at 3 months on his very first Fathers day... and the pic below is of her 2nd bday just this past March - MY how time has flown.   SHE told me to put stars so I emphasized them with some stickles ;)  She's so cute!  The back page of the album is some journalling about our trip to the store shopping for his gift, and how she paid the cashier and held the bag the whole way home (in her car seat)  I am tempted to leave it int he same bag and just add a bow - LOL!

Have a wonnnnderful day!

It's been forever since I had a camerahhh!!!!

I've missed you my BBFForevers!!  I've been making all kinds of things as I nip in and out of my Craft space.  It's so convenient, I can now finish a project in 1/2 hour and not even notice that the project has been given away faster than I can take a picture!

A few days ago my darling said "Look Mummy, a tail".. it was the wrist strap from my camera!  Well well well... I wonder WHO put it under the couch!  LOL!  But I am grateful to have it back so I can share some of these things with you.

Well, I've got a few projects I've been working on - My boss' wedding gift card holder/card was beautifully embossed and ... well, I don't have a pic, but it was stunning!  I've made a Father's Day book, a bunch of misc. birthday cards, I been getting my daughter's scrapbook caught up to March 2010 (not bad), I've got some baby shower invitations on the go (and soon thank you cards and paper crafts for the event in July), and that very special scrapbook I mentioned in an earlier post.

Now that my camera is back in business, I just need new batteries and then I'll post and get caught up!

Have a grrrreat weekend and stay tuned...

JUST A MOM?

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office, was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.  She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

"What I mean is, " explained the recorder,
"do you have a job or are you just a ....?"

"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.

"I'm a Mom."

"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,
'Housewife' covers it,” Said the recorder emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself
In the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
Efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like, "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."

"What is your occupation?" she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know..
The words simply popped out.
"I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations."

The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and
Looked up as though she had not heard right.

I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most

Significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement
Was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.

"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,
"just what you do in your field?"

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply,
"I have a continuing program of research, (what mother doesn't)
In the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)
And already have four credits (all daughters).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?)
And I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more about the satisfaction rather than just money."

There was an increasing note of respect in the Clerk's' voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3 and upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (a 6 month old baby) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern.

I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!  And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom."

Motherhood!

What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door..

Does this make grandmothers
"Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations"

And great grandmothers
"Executive Senior Research Associates?"
I think so!!!

I also think it makes Aunts
"Associate Research Assistants."

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 3.2

So in this post you are going to see sneak peaks of my Fresh new crafting area LOL, it's not quite ready for reveal but it's getting close!!  The peg board is up, the ribbon is up, all of my crafting supplies are in the area, accessible and sorted and now... the clock is up too :)  I need a few more shelves, and a bit more organizing to make it all "work" at a hand's reach and ta daa!!!  Soon.. I promise ;)

Today was my last trip to Ikea to get some more of these absolutely wonderful glass jars for all my embellies.  It'll be like an apothcary/candy store :)  Siiigh... being able to see what I got is so so soooo fun!  I also grabbed this jar for tidbits of ribbon so they can be handy, visible and cute.

So today, I've altered the Rusch clock from Ikea - at $2.99 + a $0.33 sheet of patterened paper, some scrap white that I rolled through my QK Revolution using my Finale alphabet and it's the cutest clock a girl ever had!!

Here's what I did:

Took it all apart - it easy pretty easy, paying attention tot he way the minute/second hand attached for reassembly later.

Used the clock face paper template to cut out my water paper background.  Have I mentioned recently how much I looove these scissors?! I touched up some bad cutting with Copic markers to hide the white, and used my finger knife to cut out the center circle.

Then I airbrushed the plastic clock frame.

And stamped a totally unknown stamp randomly using stazon ink straight on with my hand as the base so I could curve it.

Then I cut out my numbers using my QK Revolution and the Finale alphabet
*SPOILER* you can see my peg board in the background ;)

Stuck on the numbers using reposition able tape and my zig pen glue

And there we have it, all the tools used
(+QK Revolutionand alpha)

I've submitted this for the Copic Challenge#27 - using Copics on other surfaces too - yay, don't I looove me a challenge!!

Tips n Tricks: Working with wood & chipboard letters

Here's an awesome post showing exactly how to cover wood and the same goes for chipboard letters.  I had to figure this out the hard way with my Baby album :)

I must also say that using the finger-xacto knife thingy is sooo much more precise than pre-cutting to the edge of the letter.  If you don't have one yet, this $5 bargain will become your best friend!

I have a cute pic from last night, my table is in place, but shelves will come later this week !

Have a wonnnnderful day!

My Creating Space/Scrap Room-Part 2.2

Well... I was up until almost midnight last night rearranging (and purging a little)
to make way for my new scrappin' home!  Yippieee!!!

Here's the view walking down the stairs

Here's the view looking in from the hall.

And then I was off to the store today to buy paint, and was looking for something fresh, yet calming... and was amusingly inspired by Pooh's Favourite Things... that's the name of the colour in one of the Disney paint  idea books I had been using to entertain my little one - she pointed and said "pih'tee Mummy" and I agreed wholeheartedly!

So it was mixed!!

Bet'cha' can't guess which colour it was, not fair I know, LOL ;)
